VOLUNTEER AT MT ROTHWELL
Contribute to a legacy of conservation that stretches far beyond Mt Rothwell’s boundaries.
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Mt Rothwell Sanctuary. Their commitment, passion, and hard work are integral to the success of our threatened species programs and land management, and their efforts have shaped the sanctuary into the special place it is today.
In 2014 the Mt Rothwell Landcare Volunteers (MRLV) formed to further foster community involvement, build partnerships, and secure funding to strengthen land management. The dedication of the MRLV is unparalleled, and directly supports threatened species recovery and vital habitat restoration.
Every day at Mt Rothwell brings something new, and while the work can be physically demanding, it’s also deeply rewarding. Typical volunteering work includes:
Pest control (e.g. rabbit management)
Weed removal and spraying
Fence and track maintenance
Habitat restoration and revegetation
Captive animal husbandry support
Non-invasive population monitoring (e.g. field cameras)
General maintenance and cleaning of facilities and equipment
There’s also scope for other skills to make an impact, from vehicle maintenance to office support.
Please note: There are no opportunities for hands-on animal interaction. Our free-roaming animals are wild, and our captive animals are part of critical breeding programs.
How it works
Volunteer hours are generally weekdays, 10am–3pm.
We ask for a regular, ongoing commitment, ideally at least one day a fortnight.
Weekend volunteering may be available once you’ve completed some weekday training.
If this sounds like your kind of challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
