Public spotlight tour

Experience Mt Rothwell come alive after dark on our monthly public spotlight tour.

Wander the woodlands, guided by our passionate experts, and spot threatened and endangered species, eastern barred bandicoots, rufous bettongs, brush-tailed rock-wallabies, and even eastern quolls, thriving across the sanctuary.

Watch the sanctuary’s wildlife perched on the granite outcrops, illuminated by the glow of the night sky, for a truly unforgettable experience suitable for all ages.

  • The Public Spotlight Tour takes place on the last Saturday of every month, giving you a regular chance to step into the sanctuary after dark and experience something truly special.

  • We ask guests to arrive at sunset, so the exact time changes each month with the seasons. On arrival, enjoy light refreshments as you meet your guide.

  • The tour generally lasts between 1.5-2 hours, depending on how much wildlife we come across along the way. Some nights are filled with activity, with animals popping up around every corner, while others unfold more slowly.

  • The walk itself is easy and gentle, set along mostly flat tracks with only a slight incline, making it suitable for almost everyone.

  • To keep the experience personal and immersive, we limit each tour to 25 people. This small group size allows everyone the chance to see the wildlife clearly, ask questions, and share the magic of the night without feeling crowded.

  • Visitors of all ages are welcome on the spotlight tour. The walk is easy and family-friendly, with opportunities to see wildlife and hear about the sanctuary’s conservation programs, making it suitable for both children and adults.

  • We recommend dressing for the weather and being prepared for a walk through the bush. Bring warm clothing if it’s cool, a waterproof jacket if there’s rain, and sturdy shoes suitable for walking on natural tracks. The tour goes ahead rain or shine!

  • Tickets are $50 per adult and $35 per child (under 17 years old), with children under 5 are free of charge. All proceeds go towards maintaining the sanctuary and supporting the species we care for.
